About the Khmer Language

Khmer has one of the longest continuous literary traditions in Southeast Asia, with inscriptions dating back over 1,400 years. The Khmer script is an abugida — a writing system where consonants carry an inherent vowel sound, modified by vowel diacritics. Learning to read Khmer is one of the most rewarding aspects of reconnecting with Cambodian heritage.
